Rhode Island: Weird Bathrooms and Pepsi
So, this past week I traveled to Rhode Island, namely Newport and Block Island. We left extremely early in the morning and got in the car. The trip lasted about 4 and a half hours. Here is a basic timeline:
.5 hours in: We see some pretty cool clouds:

Look how pretty they are.
1 hour in: We stop for soda at a gas station with a McDonald’s. I attempt to buy a Nestea Cool. Money goes in, I press the button, and….nothing. I press cash return, nothing. So, I go over to the manager of the McDonald’s. Here’s how the conversation went.
Me: Yeah, I put the money into the machine, but my soda didn’t come out.
Him: oh, well, we don’t deal with the machines.
Me: Ok, so what should I do?
Him: There’s a number on the machine to call.
Me: Ok, whatever.
So we called the number, reported the machine to them and when we get home, what is there for us? 2 coupons for free Coke Products. Hell yeah!
2.5 hours in: I get bored:

My main entertainment.
3 hours in: We stop in Jamestown for lunch. At this point I had my first experience with the weird bathrooms. They have these automatic paper towel dispensers that give you the paper when you wave your hand across it. Cool, but here’s the problem: The sheets they give you aren’t big enough to dry your hands with just one. And as much as I tried, I could not get it to dispense another without ripping the first off first.
4 hours in: We cross the Newport Bridge:

The bridge next to us.
That was our trip there. Once there, I discovered that there wasn’t much to do in Newport if you’re not either a surfer, or want to eat all day. I did however find and internet cafe with free wireless. Here is a link to their website. They’re a really great place, so check them out if you’re ever in Newport. Good smoothies:

This smoothie was called “Summer Breeze”. I recommend it to all.
On Tuesday, we went to Block Island. We left at 8 in the morning, and drove an hour to the ferry. Once on the ferry, my tired self traveled to the bar for some caffeine, coffee.

The vast ocean, or bay, or something.
Once we got there, we rented bikes. I got extremely sun-burned and tired. Here are some highlights:

Some building.

Just so you know.

A lighthouse. The other one looks just like it.

Sky and ocean.

This cat was in the process of eating a bird it caught. Exciting

Expensive Ice cubes.

The Dora the Explorer ice cream I ate. Tasted like crap.
After seeing all that, we traveled home. We went to dinner at a pub in town, where the waitress decided to tell us about her spinning classes. Thanks. That night it became evident to me that there is virtually no Coke in Newport. It is all Pepsi. I did manage to find a Coke machine, though, and there was Coke at Jack and Josie’s. Wednesday I packed and watched “History of the World Part I.” Love that movie. Thursday we came home in a less than exciting trip. That was it.
